THE PUNS CO-OP MODEL

WHAT IS A CO-OP?

A cooperative (co-op) preschool is one in which the parents or caregivers take an active role in the school. This includes classroom helper days as well as participating with work task units that help our school function while keeping tuition low.

While we would love to see every family participate in the co-op, we realize that this may not be possible due to busy schedules. As a result, families can select an optional buy-out option when submitting their contract.

CLASSROOM HELPER DAYS

Classroom Helper Days offer families a meaningful opportunity to be part of their child’s PUNS experience. On your scheduled day, a parent or caregiver joins the classroom to support activities, connect with teachers, and get to know the PUNS community. It’s a great way to see your child’s learning in action and gain insight into their daily routine.

Helper days are scheduled in advance to support planning, and families may coordinate a swap with another caregiver if needed. Families in the Half Pints and 3s classrooms participate in four classroom helper days per child over the course of the school year (including their birthday).

Please note: Buy-out options are available for families if they cannot attend helper days. In addition, there are no required helper days for Pre-K.

WORK TASK UNITS

Each PUNS family is required to complete 10 work task units (13 for 2+ children enrolled). These units include tasks such as:

  • Cleaning & disinfecting classrooms

  • Laundering towels

  • Playground & garden maintenance

  • Helping with fundraisers

Prior to the school year, families have the opportunity to sign up for work unit tasks. Once you have earned all 10 (or 13) units over the course of the school year, your work unit requirement has been fulfilled.

Please note: Buy-out options are available for families if they cannot complete work task units.
