Teacher Profiles

We are very proud of the exceptional teaching staff that we have at PUNS! All of our teachers are dedicated professionals who go out of their way to make your child(ren)’s preschool experience exceptional. All of our lead teachers have teaching credentials, and all teaching staff are also certified in CPR, First Aid and AED, as well as allergy protocols and procedures.


Dawn Jones

Education Director, Pre-K/4s Teacher, Literature LLAMAS Teacher, June Bugs Teacher & June Bugs Director

Mrs. Jones has been a teacher at PUNS since September 2006. In addition to her many teaching roles, she also serves as our school's Education Director, overseeing all curriculum, educational programming, and teaching staff. Mrs. Jones holds NYS permanent teacher certification in Elementary Education, has an M.S.Ed. in Elementary Education, N-6, with a reading concentration from SUNY College at Cortland. She also holds a B.S. in Elementary Education, N-6, from SUNY College at Cortland and an A.A. in Elementary Education, N-6, from Sage Junior College of Albany. Formerly, Mrs. Jones worked as the Lead Preschool Teacher, Kinder Club Wrap Teacher, and the Head Counselor & Co-Director of the After School Program, at the Sanford-Springvale YMCA in Southern Maine. Mrs. Jones is a Pittsford PTSA member & volunteer, and a volunteer with Pittsford Boy Scout Troop 336 & Girl Scout Troop 60843. Mrs. Jones is married to her husband Spencer and they have two children — Spencer and Abby, who are both PUNS alumni!


Melissa Richardson

Pre-K/4s Teacher, STEAM Conductors Teacher, June Bugs Teacher

Mrs. Richardson has been a PUNS teacher in both the 3s and 4s programs since 2012 and has taught in the June Bugs program since 2014.  She was a PUNS Parent and Board member from 2007 – 2012.  Mrs. Richardson was an 8th grade Social Studies teacher in the Pittsford Central School District from 2000-2003.  She also worked as a graduate assistant to the Monroe County Historian from 2003-2004.  Mrs. Richardson graduated from SUNY Buffalo with a B.A. in History and a Minor in Secondary Social Studies in 2000 and graduated from SUNY Brockport with an M.A. in History in 2009.  She is an active Girl Scout leader of 2 Cadette troops, as well as one of the Co-Service Unit Managers of Pittsford Girl Scouts.  Mrs. Richardson is married to Adam with two wonderful daughters — Katie and Brenna, who are both PUNS alumni!  


Danielle Shannon

2s Assistant Teacher, Literature LLAMAS Assistant Teacher, STEAM Conductors Assistant Teacher, June Bugs Teacher

Mrs. Shannon is a nationally certified athletic trainer and has worked with college and professional athletes in the prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. She attended Ithaca College for her undergraduate degree and West Virginia University for her masters degree. Mrs. Shannon has also worked for the Town of Pittsford in their Summer Fun Program. Mrs. Shannon lives in Pittsford with her husband Mike and their three children — Claire, Jack and Abigail, who are all PUNS alumni!


Wendy Littlefield

3s Teacher, June Bugs Teacher

Mrs. Littlefield has taught in our Half Pints, 3s and Bookworms classrooms since 2013, as well as teaching in the June Bugs summer program. She is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Elementary Education and holds Florida State Teaching Certification in grades 1 – 6, 5 – 9, and preschool.  She worked at Sonbeams Learning Center in a three-year-old classroom from 2006-2009, and taught grades 1-3 for more than 14 years at Sterling Park Elementary.  Mrs. Littlefield is a Pittsford PTSA member and volunteer.  She is certified in CPR, First Aid and AED. Mrs. Littlefield is married to Devon and has two children — Noah and Madison (who is a PUNS alumni!).


Joy Blake

4s Assistant Teacher, June Bugs Teacher

Mrs. Blake is our Assistant Teacher in all of our 4s programs. She comes to PUNS with years of experience as both a PUNS parent and teacher throughout our programs over the years! Mrs. Blake earned her B.A. in Psychology and Studio Art from the University of Mississippi in 2000. She has worked extensively in a variety of educational settings, including the Children's Trust Fund, The Child Development Project, and as Lead Instructor for the After School Magnet Program in the Auburn City Schools. Mrs. Blake worked as a Private Art Instructor in the Jackson Public Schools and as Studio Gallery Art Instructor at the Mississippi Museum of Art. We are so thrilled that she has brought her rich talent and extensive art background to share with us at PUNS! She is married to her husband, Thomas, and has two beautiful children — Townes and Birdie, who are both PUNS alumni!


Jodi Sacks

Half Pints Teacher, Literature LLAMAS Teacher

Mrs. Sacks attended Wheelock College where she majored in Teaching: Preschool Education with a concentration in Infant/Toddler Development & Educational Management. She later received her B.S. in Child and Family Studies from Syracuse University. Mrs. Sacks’ previous work experience includes time in several preschools and day care centers in Western NY and New England, including Keshet Preschool, St. Luke's Hill Nursery School and The Growing Place. She has served as Teacher, Co-Teacher, Assistant Director and Education/Administrative Director during her time at these institutions, working with children ages birth through 12 years old. Mrs. Sacks was an active Pittsford PTSA member and volunteer while her children were growing up (Kindergarten and 1st Grade Art Ambassador Liason and CRMS Book Fair Chair), Odyssey of the Mind coach, volunteer within Pittsford Scouting Units (Popcorn Kernel and Committee Member) and has held a number of board positions on various charitable and education committees. Mrs. Sacks is married to her husband Stu and they have two adult children — Greg and Sami.


Cathy Kuhn

Half-Pints Teacher, Room to Bloom Teacher, June Bugs Teacher

Mrs. Kuhn received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Dayton in 1998 with a minor in Psychology. She earned her Master’s degree in Special Education from Cleveland State University in 2007. Cathy has worked as a classroom teacher for first and second grade at schools in Ohio and South Carolina. She brings a wealth of knowledge in the area of Special Education and has vast experience in differentiating curriculum, lessons and teaching methods to the individual needs of her students. Mrs. Kuhn lives in Pittsford with her husband and three sons, including Aiden, who is a Half Pint alum and currently in our 4s program.


Karen Evanitsky

June Bugs Teacher

Mrs. Evanitsky’s love for working with children started as a camp counselor for the Bayview YMCA and Waterfront Director in 1996 teaching canoeing on Irondequoit Bay. She also worked for the Red Cross from 1996-2001 teaching CPR, swimming, and life guarding. Her devotion to her community extended to volunteering with the Bushnell's Basin Fire Department from 1996-2001. In 2001, Karen graduated from Ithaca College with a B.A. in Physical Education and Health Education. From there she started substituting around the Ithaca area until she moved out to Los Angeles in 2002. Karen quickly started working as a Physical Education teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District. Mrs. Evanitsky lives in Pittsford with her husband Steve and two daughters — Chrystiana and Kathryn, who are both PUNS alumni.


Lisa Glanton

Gross Motor Teacher

Mrs. Glanton holds a bachelor's degree from The College at Brockport in physical education teacher certification (preschool through twelfth grade). She also has a master's degree in recreation management. For many years before being at home to raise her family, she worked for the Webster Central School District teaching aquatic classes for children of all ages. Mrs. Glanton has also coached various sports at all levels. She currently coaches preschool classes at the Gymnastics Training Center of Rochester. Mrs. Glanton lives in Pittsford with her husband Todd and their four sons — Gavin, Jameson (both PUNS alumni), Micah (4s program) and Cormac (3s program).


Jenny Harrington

3s Assistant Teacher

Mrs. Harrington received a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from Mercyhurst College in 2005. After years of managing restaurants, staff and food service operations around the Rochester area, Mrs. Harrington made the decision to stay home full time with her children and joined the PUNS family as a parent. During her past four years at PUNS, Mrs. Harrington has been on the board as our Hospitality Chair, worked in our babysitting services, and as a substitute teacher throughout our classrooms. Mrs. Harrington lives in Penfield with her husband Jacob and two girls – Madison (PUNS alumni) and Bridget (4s program).


Kara Ricotta

3s Assistant Teacher, STEAM Conductors Assistant Teacher

Mrs. Ricotta joins our teaching staff with years of experience at PUNS -- as both a parent and former Executive Board member. Prior to having children, she worked in marketing, web design, graphic design and editing, and served as an adjunct professor within The College at Brockport's Department of Communication. She holds a master's degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and did her undergraduate work at St. John Fisher College. Over the years, Mrs. Ricotta has also created and taught media/communications courses for middle school and high school students and worked at a high ropes course/team building facility where she worked mostly with high school and/or college sports teams and groups. Mrs. Ricotta lives in Pittsford with her husband Matt and their three children -- Michael, Helena and Grayson, who are all PUNS alumni!
